Men’s Track takes Ninth at CTC Championships; 4x800 Relay Sets School-Record

Senior Frank McClatchy was a member of the school-record 4x800-meter relay team.

Center Valley, PA (April 20, 2008) – The DeSales University men's track and field took home ninth place out of 17 schools at the CTC Championships hosted at DeSales University on Saturday and Sunday led by the 4x800-meter relay team that took home first place and set a new school-record with a time of 7:58.74.
 
        The Bulldogs totaled 51.50 points, just 0.5 points out of eighth place over the weekend. The 4x800-meter relay team consisted of sophomore Pat Hess (Harrisburg, PA/Bishop McDevitt), senior Anthony Naimo (Northvale, NJ/Bergen Catholic), senior Frank McClatchy (Exton, PA/Bishop Shanahan) and freshman Paul Ecker (Lewes, DE/Cape Henlopen). The team broke the old record which had stood at 8:00.90.
 
        McClatchy was among the individual top performers taking fifth place in the 800-meter run in a time of 1;59.68, while Hess and Ecker were among the top eight in the 1,500-meter run as Hess took sixth place (4:14.45) and Ecker was seventh (4:14.65). Sophomore Andrew Ferretti (Collegeville, PA/Wilson) took home fourth in the 5,000-meter run (15:58.32) and freshman Kevin Gwinn (Center Muriches, NY/Saint Anthony's) was eighth in the 5K in a time of 16:14.85.
 
        Rounding out the top performers on the track were freshman Pete Moreni (Philadelphia, PA/Archbishop Ryan) in eighth place in the 400-meter hurdles (58.57 seconds), sophomore Justin Cuga (Newark, DE/Salesianum) in fifth place in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in a time of 10:11.78 and Gwinn in eighth place in the steeplechase in a time of 10:18.97.
 
        In the field events senior Kevin Anderson (Newport, PA/Newport) took home second place in the pole vault with a final vault of 12-11.50 feet and sophomore Nick Staats (Montrose, PA/Montrose Area) was sixth in the pole vault (12-05.50 feet). Freshman Doug Searles (Landing, NJ/Roxbury) was eighth in the shot put (43-10.75 feet) and fellow freshman Ken Devens (Vernon, NJ/Vernon Township) was eighth in the hammer throw (121-09.00 feet).

        The Bulldogs return to action on Friday when the 4x400-meter relay team travels to the Penn Relays and on Saturday when the team competes at the Lehigh University Invitational.
