BOX SCORE

Ithaca, NY (May 9, 2008) – The DeSales University softball team dropped to the loser's bracket falling to top seeded Ithaca College, 11-0, in the second round of the NCAA Regional Tournament at Kostrinsky Field on Friday afternoon.

The Bulldogs fall to 28-14 with the loss and will now look to stay alive in the tournament when they meet the University of Rochester at 10:00 on Saturday morning. A win on Saturday would advance them to the loser's bracket semifinal at 4:00 pm on Saturday. Ithaca moves to 32-10 with the win and will now meet Bethany College in the winner's bracket semifinals.

DSU fell behind in the second inning when consecutive bloop singles and a bunt base hit loaded the bases for the Bombers who tallied two runs on a sacrifice fly and groundout. The game remained 2-0 into the top of the fifth inning when Ithaca plated two more runs on a one-out single down the left-field line putting the Bombers up 4-0.

The Bulldogs continued to trail by four entering the final inning when Ithaca took complete control scoring seven runs, including three unearned tallies, on seven hits and two Bulldog errors to take an 11-0 lead and eventually the win.

DeSales had just two hits on the afternoon, base hits by junior Amanda Kensecki (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty) and freshman Kate Steiner (Walnutport, PA/Northampton). Sophomore Kristen Cybularz (Philadelphia, PA/Archbishop Carroll) took the loss pitching 2.2 innings allowing five hits and two earned runs. Freshman Larissa Tenley (Sinking Spring, PA/Conrad Weiser) came on in relief of Cybularz pitching 4.1 innings allowing 11 hits and six earned runs.
