Center Valley, PA, (June 1, 2008) – DeSales University Athletics Director Scott Coval has announced Sarah Fosdick as the second head coach of the Field Hockey program at DeSales University. Fosdick will begin her tenure as a full-time coach in August and replaces Jayne Longacre who had resigned in late March.
Fosdick is a 2005 graduate of Muhlenberg College where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology and a minor in mathematics. She has spent the last two years as an assistant coach with the Mules and spent one year as an assistant at SUNY-New Paltz prior to her coaching experience at Muhlenberg.
During her playing career with Muhlenberg, Fosdick was a four-year varsity member and a team captain as a senior on the field hockey team. She earned All-Centennial Conference Second-Team honors in her senior year when she had a team-high five assists.
Following her departure from Muhlenberg she went on to play for the United States in Australia at the Northern University Games. In addition to her coaching stints with Muhlenberg and SUNY-New Paltz, Fosdick assisted the futures program for the USA Field Hockey Association in 2006 and has been involved with numerous team and individual camps since 2003 in the tri-state area.
A native of Quechee, VT, Fosdick will be taking over a program that will be in just its fifth year as a varsity program after the sport was started in the fall of 2004. The Bulldogs posted an 8-11 record in 2007 and qualified for the Freedom Conference playoffs for the first time in the school's history falling to top seeded King's College, 2-1, in the opening round.
“We are extremely excited and pleased to announce Sarah Fosdick as our new field hockey coach,” Coval stated. “The energy and enthusiasm that Sarah brings to the game of field hockey and to the DSU community will be tremendous assets. Her past coaching experiences make her an excellent candidate to continue moving the field hockey program in the right direction.”
