Four Bulldogs Named Freedom Conference GK/D/Player of the Week

Annville, PA (October 5, 2009) – Four DeSales University fall student-athletes have been named the Freedom Conference Player or GK/D of the Week as announced by the conference office on Monday afternoon including one from the men’s soccer, one from the women’s soccer, one from the field hockey, and one from the women’s tennis team.
Honorees include freshman Adam Franczak (Nazareth, PA/Nazareth) named GK/D of the week in men’s soccer, sophomore Melissa Millili (Deptford, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) named GK/D of the week in women’s soccer, freshman Victoria DelToro (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty) named GK/D of the week in field hockey, and junior Kate Steiner (Walnutport, PA/Northampton) named Player of the Week in women’s tennis.
Franczak was outstanding in between the pipes last week recording two shutouts and extending his personal scoreless streak to 258:30 minutes. He had two saves in the 1-0 shutout win over Arcadia and five saves in the 2-0 win over Freedom Conference foe Delaware Valley College. Franczak is now 6-2 on the season with two shutouts and a 1.12 GAA.
Millili had a terrific week recording two shutouts and extending her scoreless streak to 284:36 minutes. She made six saves in the 4-0 win over Lebanon Valley College and three saves in the 5-0 win over Delaware Valley College as the Bulldogs started the Freedom Conference season, 1-0. Millili now has four shutouts on the year with a 1.61 GAA.
DelToro had a solid week leading DSU to a 2-0 record with eight saves in two games. She allowed just one goal in each game, wins over Arcadia University and Cedar Crest College. On the season, DelToro has a 2.53 GAA with 61 saves and a .726 save percentage.
Steiner had another undefeated week posting two wins in both singles and doubles leading DeSales to a 1-1 record in two Freedom Conference matches. Playing in the #1 position in both singles and doubles she posted a 6-1, 6-1 win over Manhattanville and a 6-3, 6-4 win over Misericordia. In doubles action, Steiner teamed with sophomore Christine Petrilla to win 8-3 in both matches. Steiner is now 4-0 on the season in Freedom Conference play in singles and doubles.
