Four Bulldogs Named to All-Freedom Conference Team

Annville, PA (November 9, 2009) – Four DeSales University men's soccer players were named to the All-Freedom Conference Men's Soccer team as announced by the conference office on Monday afternoon and as voted on by the eight Freedom Conference coaches.

Among the honorees are sophomore Derek Long (Wernersville, PA/Conrad Weiser), who was the lone player named to the First-Team, and sophomore Jonathan Balfour (London, England/Conestoga {PA}), junior Aaron Gildner (Slatington, PA/Parkland), and senior Tony Aufiero (Wall, NJ/Wall) all on the Second-Team.

Long makes his first appearance on the All-Conference team as a sophomore. He ranked second on the team with seven goals scored and third with 14 total points. Among his seven goals were four game-winners including all three of DSU's Freedom Conference wins this year.

Balfour also makes his first appearance on the All-Conference team after transferring to DeSales as a sophomore from Kutztown University. He led the Bulldogs in scoring with nine goals and two assists for 20 points and had three game-winning goals.

Gildner is making his first appearance on the All-Conference team in his second season with the Bulldogs after transferring to DeSales from Lehigh University last year. Gildner totaled three goals and four assists for 10 points and had one game-winning goal.

Aufiero rounds out the honorees earning All-Conference honors for the third time in his career after earning First-Team honors as both a freshman and a sophomore. He is fifth on the team in scoring with three goals and two assists for 10 points as a starting defender. He was 2-for-3 on penalty kicks this season.

The Bulldogs were named the #5 seed in the ECAC South Region Tournament this morning and will be traveling to play the #4 seed Lebanon Valley College on Wednesday afternoon at 1:00 pm. DeSales enters the game with a 10-7 overall record.
