Bulldogs fall to Devils, 11-7, in MAC Action

Center Valley, PA (April 1, 2009) – The DeSales University men’s lacrosse team was unable to pull off an upset falling to undefeated FDU-Florham, 11-7, in an MAC Conference game played on a miserably cold and rainy Wednesday afternoon.

The Bulldogs fall to 3-6 overall and 2-2 in the MAC with the loss, while the Devils improve to 7-3 overall and stay undefeated (5-0) in the MAC. FDU enjoyed a 43-24 advantage on shots, while both teams totaled 29 ground balls. DSU had a 12-10 advantage on face-offs won, while FDU took advantage of its man-up opportunities scoring four of seven times.

Leading the DSU attack was senior Matthew Brancaccio (Greenvale, NY/North Shore) who once again played well on the offensive end with a goal and three assists. Senior Andrew Ervin (Langhorne, PA/Neshaminy) had two goals, and senior Joshua Van Hart (Glen Gardner, NJ/Voorhees), junior Kevin Walker (Wilmington, DE/Salesianum), junior Matthew Kruszewski (Atco, NJ/Winslow Township), and freshman Jeff Cook (Bay Shore, NY/Bay Shore) each had one goal in the loss.

Freshman Michael Bassani (Califon, NY/Voorhees) and Brendan Guerrier (Bellerose Terrace, NY/Chaminade) each had assists and Walker once again faired well in the face-off circle winning 12-of-21. Guerrier picked up a team-high eight ground balls and junior Jarryd Stamatelos (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill West) continued his stellar play in goal making 10 saves in three periods of action.

DSU returns to action on Saturday when they host another MAC foe, Lycoming College, with game time set for 1:00 pm.
