Purchase, NY (April 9, 2009) – The DeSales University men’s lacrosse team was out-scored 4-0 in the second quarter leading to an eventual 9-5 loss at Manhattanville College in a critical MAC Conference game under the lights on Thursday evening.

The Bulldogs fall to 3-8 overall and 2-4 in the MAC with their third straight loss. The Valiants improve to 4-7 overall and 3-3 in the MAC and will own the tiebreaker over DSU with the win today in the only regular season meeting.

Entering tonight’s game DeSales had been out-scored 33-9 in the second quarter and its struggles in the second 15 minutes continued as MVille scored four unanswered goals entering halftime to take a 6-1 lead and DSU was unable to close the margin in the second half. The Bulldogs also struggled in their man-up opportunities scoring in just one of nine tries on Thursday evening.

Leading the scoring attack was senior Joshua Van Hart (Glen Gardner, NJ/Voorhees) with three goals and fellow senior Matthew Brancaccio (Greenvale, NY/North Shore) with two goals and two assists for four points. A pair of freshmen, Michael Bassani (Califon, NY/Voorhees) and Jeff Cook (Bay Shore, NY/Bay Shore) each added assists.

Junior Kevin Walker (Wilmington, DE/Salesianum) had a team-high eight ground balls and won 8-of-16 face-offs in the loss.

DSU returns to action on Tuesday, April 14th when they travel to Elizabethtown College for another MAC Conference game beginning at 7:00 pm.
