Four Bulldogs Named to All-Conference Team
Junior Joe Walsh led four Bulldogs on the All-Conference team with a First-Team selection.

Annville, PA (May 7, 2009) – Four Bulldogs including junior Joe Walsh (Green Brook, NJ/Watchung Hill) were honored on the All-Freedom Conference Team as announced by the conference office on Thursday morning and as voted on by the nine Freedom Conference coaches.
Walsh was the only Bulldog named to the All-Conference First-Team, earning the honor for the second straight year as a relief pitcher. Junior Derek Moyer (Harleysville, PA/Souderton), senior Mike Bianca (Ellicott City, MD/Mt. St. Joseph), and sophomore Mike Newland (Frenchtown, NJ/Delaware Valley) were also honored as each earned Second-Team honors. It is the first appearance on the All-Conference team for all three players with Newland earning Freedom Conference Rookie of the Year honors last season.
Walsh had a sensational junior campaign posting a 4-1 record out of the bullpen, making a team-high 22 appearances and totaling 23 innings pitched. He had a team-low 2.35 ERA and a team-high six saves. Walsh struck out 28 batters and opponents batted just .234 off him. He will begin his senior season as the all-time leader in saves with 15.
Moyer was DSU’s most consistent hitter all season. He led the team with a .349 batting average and also had team-highs of 51 hits, 10 doubles, and three triples. Moyer added 33 runs scored, five home runs, and knocked in 32 runs on the season.
Bianca batted .275 on the year with seven doubles, two triples, three homers, and 27 RBI’s. He also stole 14 bases on the year, ranking him third on the team. Newland had another solid season at the plate as a designated hitter. He batted .327 with a career-high five home runs and 20 RBI’s. Newland also stole 12 bases and had an on-base percentage of .422.
The Bulldogs finished the season with a 21-16-1 overall record. They won 20+ games for the 10th straight season and for the 15th time in the last 16 years.
