Men's Hoops Cruises Past FDU-Florham, 64-48

Madison, NJ (January 16, 2009) – Senior Darnell Braswell (Allentown, PA/William Allen) just missed his second straight double-double with 18 points and nine rebounds leading the DeSales University men’s basketball team past FDU-Florham, 64-48, in a Freedom Conference game on Saturday afternoon at the Ferguson Recreation Center.

The Bulldogs (11-4, 5-0 Freedom) shot 53.8 percent from the field in the first half to open up a 10-point halftime advantage and used a 15-5 run to start the second half, taking its largest lead of the game, 50-30, at the 13:45 mark and held off an 8-0 Devil (0-14, 0-5 Freedom) run later in the half, cruising to the 16-point win.

DSU finished the game shooting 45.6 percent from the field and held FDU to just 32.8 percent shooting. DeSales improves to 9-0 on the season when they hold the opposition under 70 points. The Bulldogs out-rebounded Florham, 47-33, and took advantage of the 13 Devil turnovers with 19 points off those turnovers.

Braswell shot 7-for-13 from the field and also had three assists to lead the way. Senior Jim Malatesta (Warminster, PA/Archbishop Wood) had a terrific game with 12 points, five rebounds, six assists, and three steals, while fellow senior Matt Zwetolitz (Whitehall, PA/Whitehall) totaled 11 points.

Junior Brian Hunter (Allentown, PA/Emmaus) turned in another solid floor game with seven rebounds and seven assists against just one turnover, while sophomore Bob Zanneo (Philadelphia, PA/Father Judge) led the charge off bench with eight points.

George Twill had 14 points as the lone double digit scorer for the Devils in the loss.

DeSales returns to action on Wednesday evening when they return to Billera Hall to host Wilkes University in another Freedom Conference game beginning at 8:00 pm. Once again for those unable to attend you can follow the game’s progress online via LIVE Stats or LIVE Audio.
