Center Valley, PA (February 10, 2010) - For the second straight year the DeSales University Baseball team hosted 32 youngsters from the Miracle League of the Lehigh Valley on Saturday morning. The Miracle League is charitable organization that provides children and young adults with special needs the opportunity to play Miracle League Baseball.
All special needs players are encouraged to participate regardless of limitation and/or severity. At the Miracle League, all players hit every inning, nobody is called out, and everybody scores!
DeSales players and coaching staff spent time with each young player assisting them in hitting, fielding, and throwing. Following 30 minutes of practice, the players were split into two teams for a one hour long game.
Smiles and laughter were plentiful, whether it was the Miracle League kids themselves, their parents, or the DSU players and coaches. The morning's activities were thoroughly enjoyed by everyone. “We are truly honored to host the Miracle League kids at DeSales for the second straight year”, said Head Coach Tim Neiman. "It is without question the favorite practice of the year for me. I am extremely proud of the effort that our players and coaches put forth. Their dedication and commitment to the event contributed immensely to the success of the program. I believe at the end of the day, that our players may have received more love and compassion from the Miracle League players then we could only hope to provide to them. Valuable life lessons were learned, and an important perspective in all of the lives we touched today, including our own, was gained.”
