Center Valley, PA (February 4, 2010) – Senior Kelly Magrann (Sinking Spring, PA/Holy Name) of the DeSales University women's basketball team was honored on Wednesday being named to the CoSIDA/ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District Third-Team as announced by the Academic All-America® Committee.
The CoSIDA/ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District Team recognizes student-athletes of sophomore status or higher that excel in both the classroom (3.3 GPA or higher) and on the court (starter or significant reserve). All student-athletes recognized on an All-District First-Team are then forwarded to the national ballot where they will be considered for Academic All-American status.
Magrann has been a major part of the Bulldogs success this season, in particular over the last three weeks in which DSU has won five straight games and six of its last seven to move into a third place tie in the Freedom Conference standings. Over Magrann's last 12 games she ranks second on the team in scoring at 12.1 points per game and is shooting a team-best 42.9 percent (33-for-77) from three-point land.
Overall on the season, Magrann is averaging 8.7 points per game with a team-high 35 three-pointers and is shooting 39.8 percent from outside the arc. In the classroom she is second to none, garnering a 3.97 cumulative GPA as a sports & exercise science major. Magrann has been accepted and will be pursuing her doctorate following her graduation from DeSales in May at Arcadia University in physical therapy.
The Bulldogs return home and to Freedom Conference play on Saturday, when they host Delaware Valley College in another very important Freedom Conference game beginning at 1:00 pm and DSU's "Pink Zone" game.
