Center Valley, PA (March 19, 2010) – Senior Darnell Braswell (Allentown, PA/William Allen) collected some more post-season hardware on Thursday as he was named the ECAC South Region and NABC Mid-Atlantic Region Player of the Year and to the First-Team by each organization. In addition Braswell was named an NABC First-Team All-American for the second straight year as announced on Wednesday evening.
Braswell adds these honors to a list that already included being named the D3hoops.com Mid-Atlantic Region Player of the Year and the Freedom Conference Player of the Year. The D3hoops.com All-American team is set to be announced this weekend at the Final Four.
Braswell followed up what was an outstanding junior season last year with an even better senior season this year leading the Bulldogs to their second straight Freedom Conference Championship and to the “Sweet 16” of the NCAA Tournament. DSU finished the year with a 24-6 overall record, falling to Final Four qualifier, Randolph-Macon College, this past Friday in the NCAA “Sweet 16”.
Braswell will play one more game in college as he is set to participate in the first-ever NABC Division III All-Star game on Saturday morning. Braswell' stats are an endless list of near perfection as he led the Bulldogs in scoring (20.9 PPG) and rebounding (8.4 RPG) and recorded a team-high 11 double-doubles on the year. He recorded career-highs in field goal shooting (46.0%) and free throw shooting (71.6%) this season and finished his career as the school-record holder for points in a game (41 vs. King's College this season), points in a season (606, 2009-10), and points in a career (1,745).
