Braswell Named DIII News First-Team and D3hoops.com Second-Team All-American

Senior Darnell Braswell has earned All-American honors by three different organizations this season.

Center Valley, PA (March 19, 2010) – Senior Darnell Braswell (Allentown, PA/William Allen) earned two more honors over the weekend being named a DIII News First-Team All-American and a D3hoops.com Second-Team All-American as announced by each organization over the weekend in accordance with the Division III Final Four in Salem, VA.

Braswell has now earned All-American honors with three different organizations this season (DIII News, D3hoops.com, and the NABC), been named the Regional Player of the Year by the ECAC, D3hoops.com, and NABC, and been named the Freedom Conference Player of the Year for the second straight season. He was also named to the NABC Senior All-Star game which was played this past Saturday with his East squad winning 109-107 in overtime. Braswell hit two free throws with 2.8 seconds left in the first overtime to give his East team the win.

Braswell followed up what was an outstanding junior season last year with an even better senior season this year leading the Bulldogs to their second straight Freedom Conference Championship and to the “Sweet 16” of the NCAA Tournament. DSU finished the year with a 24-6 overall record, falling to Final Four qualifier, Randolph-Macon College, this past Friday in the NCAA “Sweet 16”.

Braswell' stats are an endless list of near perfection as he led the Bulldogs in scoring (20.9 PPG) and rebounding (8.4 RPG) and recorded a team-high 11 double-doubles on the year. He recorded career-highs in field goal shooting (46.0%) and free throw shooting (71.6%) this season and finished his career as the school-record holder for points in a game (41 vs. King's College this season), points in a season (606, 2009-10), and points in a career (1,745).
