RESULTS (Men and Women)
Center Valley, PA (April 18, 2010) – The DeSales University men's track & field team had a terrific all-around performance on Saturday and Sunday taking home first place at the CTC Outdoor T&F Championships held at DeSales over the weekend.
The Bulldogs finished with 135 team points, 33 points ahead of second place and Division I Sacred Heart University. As has been the story most of the season, DSU dominated the throwing events scoring several points in each event.
In the shot put senior Steve Modrow (Forty Fort, PA/Wyoming Valley West) was sixth (14.43m), in the discus Modrow was fourth (41.64m) and sophomore Hank Miller (Hamburg, PA/Hamburg) was sixth (38.34m). In the hammer throw freshman Jose Santiago was first with a school-record toss (55.35m), junior Ken Devens (Vernon, NJ/Vernon Township) was second (49.00m), and Miller was fifth (47.22m). Lastly senior Justin Del Piano (Monmouth Junction, NJ/South Brunswick) was second in the javelin (53.08m).
Other top finishers including freshman Pat Jacoby (Allentown, PA/Salisbury) with a seventh place finish in the 400-meters (52.21), the trio of junior Pat Filanowksi (Cumbola, PA/Marian Catholic), sophomore Brent Clauser (Pottsville, PA/Pottsville), and junior Brian Filanowski (Cumbola, PA/Marian Catholic) finishing 2-3-4 in the 800-meter run. Junior Paul Ecker (Lewes, DE/Cape Henlopen) was first in the 1,500-meters (4:06.36), junior Mike Curry (Kennett Square, PA/Salesianum) was second in the 5,000-meters (15:22.73) and junior Kevin Gwinn (Center Muriches, NY/Saint Anthony's) was eighth (16:12.60).
In the 10,000-meters Gwinn took third (33:09.60) and sophomore Dan Szilagyi (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) was eighth (34:55.82). Freshman Neal Fox (Adamstown, PA/Lancaster Catholic) was seventh in the 110-meter hurdles (18.41) and seniors Andrew Ferretti (Sinking Spring, PA/Wilson) and Justin Cuga (Newark, DE/Salesianum) were fourth and fifth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.
Rounding out the top finishers were sophomore Andrew MacNiven (East Hampton, NY/East Hampton) in second place in the high jump (1.97m), sophomore Derek Long (Wernersville, PA/Conrad Weiser) in fifth place in the high jump (1.82m), freshman Brandon Esterly (Reading, PA/Muhlenberg) in eighth place in the long jump (6.10m), MacNiven in eighth place in the triple jump (12.56m), and lastly freshman Tyler Parisi (Mohnton, PA/Holy Name) was second in the decathlon (4,518 pts).
The Bulldogs return to action this week at the Penn Relays during the week and at the Lehigh University Invitational on Saturday.
