Esterly Breaks Long Jump School-Record at Lock Haven

Freshman Brandon Esterly broke the school-record in the long jump on Saturday at Lock Haven.

Lock Haven, PA (May 1, 2010) – Freshman Brandon Esterly (Reading, PA/Muhlenberg) broke the long jump school-record by almost two feet as the DeSales University men's track & field team had its final tune-up before the MAC Outdoor Championships at the Elliston Invite at Lock Haven University on Saturday.

Among the top finishers was sophomore Brent Clauser (Pottsville, PA/Pottsville) in the 800-meter run with a seventh place finish in a time of 1:57.27 and junior Mike Curry (Kennett Square, PA/Salesianum) was eighth in the 1,500-meter run (4:10.97). Junior Jack Tarpey (Freehold, NJ/Freehold Township) was the top finisher for the Bulldogs in the 3,000-meter run in fourth place with a time of 9:23.75.

Esterly finished the long jump in ninth place with a final jump of 6.80m (22-03.75 feet) to set the school-record and Esterly was seventh in the triple jump with a jump of 42-10.75 feet. Senior Steve Modrow (Forty Fort, PA/Wyoming Valley West) was second in the shot put with another school-record toss of 15.30m and junior Ken Devens (Vernon, NJ/Vernon Township) was seventh with a toss of 13.04m.

In the discus freshman Jose Santiago was fifth with a toss of 44.21m, sophomore Hank Miller (Hamburg, PA/Hamburg) was sixth (42.67m), and Modrow was seventh (42.28m). Santiago was first in the hammer throw (55.00m), Devens was sixth (48.56m), and Miller was eighth (44.04m), and sophomore Doug Harding (Dallas, PA/Dallas) was eighth in the javelin (46.80m).

DeSales returns to action this week when they take part in the MAC Outdoor Championships beginning on Wednesday.
