Center Valley, PA (May 10, 2010) – The DeSales University softball was awarded the #3 seed in the ECAC South Region Softball Tournament as announced by the organization on Monday afternoon as the Bulldogs will host a first-round game on Wednesday afternoon.
The invitation is the first-ever bid into the ECAC South Region Tournament for the Bulldogs who will enter with a 24-19 overall record and will be hosting the #6 seed Cabrini College (23-18 overall) in the first round with first pitch set for 4:00 pm. LIVE Stats will be available for those unable to attend the game.
The rest of the tournament field features the #1 seed Bethany College – WV (32-13 overall), #2 seed Centenary College – NJ (30-11 overall), #4 seed Alvernia University (22-14 overall), #5 seed Catholic University (25-13 overall), #7 seed Misericordia University (24-15 overall), and the #8 seed Pitt.-Bradford (19-19 overall). Following Wednesday's first round games to be played at each of the four highest seeds home sites, the tournament shifts to the highest remaining seed's (able to host) home site for a double elimination tournament to be held on Saturday and Sunday.
The Bulldogs finished the Freedom Conference regular season as the #1 seed in the Freedom Conference playoffs but were ousted in the loser's bracket championship this past Saturday as King's College went on to earn the automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament from the Freedom Conference.
Leading the way for the Bulldogs will be senior Kerri Andrews (Bethlehem, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) who is batting .387 with 58 hits, 15 doubles and 16 RBIs. Sophomore Christine Petrilla (Hamilton, NJ/Steinert) is hitting .351 with a team-high 18 doubles and 20 RBIs, junior Jen Lococo (Easton, PA/Freedom) is hitting .336 with a team-high eight home runs and 38 RBIs, and junior Kate Steiner (Walnutport, PA/Northampton) is also hitting over .300 at .333 with five homers and 29 RBIs.
On the mound, Lococo is 10-7 with a 3.45 ERA, Petrilla is 6-3 with a 2.27 ERA and sophomore Katie Morrissey (Lanoka Harbor, NJ/Lacey Township) is 8-9 with a 3.83 ERA and 127 strikeouts in 115 innings pitched.
