ALL-FREEDOM CONFERENCE TEAM
Annville, PA (May 10, 2010) – Six members including senior Kerri Andrews (Bethlehem, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) and junior Kristin Schultz (Laurys Station, PA/Parkland) on the First-Team, of the DeSales University softball team were honored on Monday afternoon by being named to the All-Freedom Conference First or Second-Team as announced by the conference office and as voted on by the eight Freedom Conference coaches.
Andrews and Schultz were the only two players honored on the First-Team with Schultz being one of two catchers on the First-Team and Andrews one of four infielders. Junior Jen Lococo (Easton, PA/Freedom) and sophomore Katie Morrissey (Lanoka Harbor, NJ/Lacey Township) represented the Bulldogs as the only two pitchers on the All-Conference Second-Team, junior Kate Steiner (Walnutport, PA/Northampton) was honored as one of the four Second-Team infielders and sophomore Christine Petrilla (Hamilton, NJ/Steinert) was named the Second-Team designated player to round out the honorees.
Andrews makes her second appearance on the All-Conference team after earning Second-Team honors as a freshman. She had a tremendous year batting a team-high .387 and also leading the team in runs (41), hits (58), second in doubles (15), walks (18), and on-base percentage (.447). She will enter play this Wednesday in the ECAC Tournament needing just three hits to break the single-season record and one run scored to also break the single-season record which she is currently tied at with 41. Her 15 doubles are the second most in a season in school history.
Schultz earns First-Team honors for the second consecutive year at the catcher position. She is batting .289 with three home runs and 17 RBIs this season, having committed just three errors for a .988 fielding percentage behind the plate and having caught all 43 games the Bulldogs played.
Lococo earns All-Conference honors for the third time after being named to the First-Team as well as Pitcher and Rookie of the Year as a freshman and Second-Team as a sophomore. She is 10-7 with a 3.45 ERA on the mound this season with 11 complete-games and two shutouts. Lococo has struck out 61 batters in 109.2 innings pitched. At the plate she is batting .336 with a team-high eight home runs and 38 RBIs to go along with 11 doubles and a team-best .575 slugging percentage.
Morrissey earns Second-Team honors after earning First-Team honors and being named Rookie of the Year last season. She is 8-9 with a 3.83 ERA this season having punched out 127 batters in just 115 innings pitched. Opponents are batting .223 off her and she has tossed nine complete-games with two shutouts.
Steiner earns Second-Team honors for the second straight year. She is batting .333 with five home runs and 20 RBIs this season and leads the team with five stolen bases. Steiner has played a terrific shortstop this year making just eight errors in 180 chances for a .956 fielding percentage.
Petrilla rounds out the honorees having had a tremendous bounce back year as a sophomore batting .351 with a school-record 18 doubles and 20 RBIs. Petrilla also has four home runs and is third on the team with a .554 slugging percentage. She has also performed well on the mound this season posting a 6-3 record with a 2.27 ERA in 77 innings pitched.
