Center Valley, PA (May 4, 2010) – The DeSales University baseball team is back in the playoffs. Back after not earning a post-season bid for just the second time in 13 years last year since becoming a member of the Freedom Conference and the Bulldogs are in search of their ninth Freedom Conference crown having won eight Freedom titles in their previous 10 playoff appearances.
DeSales enters post-season play as the #1 seed and with a 24-15 overall record and 17-4 mark in the Freedom Conference. This is DSU's 11th trip to the Freedom Conference playoffs with the Bulldogs having won eight titles in their first 10 trips with the most recent coming in 2008. DeSales will enter the tournament with a 28-5 (.848) all-time Freedom Conference playoff record.

The tournament returns to the format of playing the first two games at the higher seeds home site on Wednesday before it shifts to a neutral site stadium for the final four (or five if necessary) games on Saturday and Sunday, this season being held at Bear Stadium in Boyertown, PA.
The other three teams joining the Bulldogs are the #2 seed FDU-Florham Devils (28-8, 15-6 Freedom), the #3 seed Manhattanville College Valiants (18-19-1, 12-9 Freedom), and the #4 seed King's College Monarchs (23-14, 12-9 Freedom). DSU and FDU-Florham will host the first-round games on Wednesday at 3:30 pm.
Head Coach Tim Neiman has guided DeSales to 11-straight 20+ win seasons and earlier this year won his 500th career game. He enters post-season play with a career record of 518-287-5 (.643) and having taken DeSales to nine NCAA Tournaments and as far as the College World Series in 2003. As a team, DSU is hitting .360 with 41 home runs and averaging 8.9 runs per game and the Bulldogs' top three starters have recorded a combined 20-4 record this season.
Individually senior Derek Moyer (Harleysville, PA/Souderton) has consistently been the top hitter all season batting .458 with eight home runs, 45 RBIs, and a team-high 49 runs scored. Sophomore Jason Hadinger (Northampton, PA/Allentown Central Catholic) is hitting .418 with 34 RBIs, junior Carson Slonaker (East Greenville, PA/The Perkiomen School) is batting .416 with a team-high 19 doubles and a team-high 52 RBIs, and sophomore Jack Kavetski (Plymouth Meeting, PA/Plymouth Whitemarsh) is also hitting over .400 at .413 with 42 runs scored and a team-high 11 stolen bases.
Junior Mike Newland (Frenchtown, NJ/Delaware Valley) has provided a large chunk of the team's 41 dingers with 13 of his own, setting a new school-record for round-trippers in a season, surpassing Bryan Gibson's mark of 11 set in 2008. Newland also has four triples and a team-high .741 slugging percentage.
On the mound, freshman David Drinks (Mechanicsburg, PA/Cumberland Valley) has been outstanding all season long, posting an 8-0 record with a 2.45 ERA with a team-high 66 innings pitched. Opponents are batting just .221 off him and he's walked just 13 batters. Senior Joe Walsh (Green Brook, NJ/Watchung Hills) has a 2.66 ERA with two saves in 20.1 innings pitched, senior Mark Reilly (Cream Ridge, NJ/Notre Dame) has a 2.25 ERA with 24 strikeouts in 24 innings pitched, freshman Dan Gayeski (New Castle, DE/Salesianum) posted an 8-1 record with 47 K's in 46.2 innings pitched, and junior Travis Hughes (Levittown, PA/Conwell-Egan Catholic) has four wins, the only complete-game shutout of the season, and opponents are batting just .218 off him in 43 innings pitched.
