NFCA All-East Region Team

DJ McCauley was honored on Friday afternoon being named to the NFCA (National Fastpitch Coaches Association) All-East Region First-Team as announced by the organization on its web site.
McCauley becomes just the 13th Bulldog to earn NFCA All-Region honors and the first since the 2011 season. She is also just the fifth player to earn First-Team honors in team history. All players earning First-Team honors are now forwarded to the National Committee for All-American consideration.
McCauley earned First-Team All-East Region honors at the Utility position having split her time this season between pitching and playing left-field for the Bulldogs. She was named to the All-Freedom Conference First-Team as well as the Freedom Conference Pitcher and Rookie of the Year.
Entering play tomorrow as the Bulldogs are still alive in the NCAA Regional Tournament, McCauley leads the Bulldogs both at the plate and in the circle. She is 17-5 with a team-low 1.48 ERA with 128 strikeouts in 147 innings pitched. The 17 wins are single-season record and McCauley has also set a new single-season record with seven shutouts this season.
At the plate she is leading the team with a .423 batting average with 58 hits, 13 doubles, five home runs, and 26 RBIs. McCauley has a .452 on-base percentage and has struck out just five times in 147 plate appearances.
DSU returns to action tomorrow when they face Roger Williams University on day three of the NCAA Regional Tournament needing a win to stay alive. First pitch is set for 10:00 am.
