Center Valley, PA (November 5, 2014) – Freshman
Isabel McPeak picked a great time for her first career goal, pushing home a corner kick feed in the 57
th minute giving the DeSales University women's soccer team a 1-0 win over King's College in the Freedom Conference Tournament semifinals on Wednesday afternoon.
The win is the 10
th of the season for the Bulldogs marking just the third time in team history DSU has won 10+ games in a season. It is also DeSales' first-ever Freedom Conference Tournament win in its fourth career appearance in the post-season tournament.
DSU will advance to it's first-ever Freedom Conference championship game awaiting the winner of the other semifinal match-up tonight between Misericordia University and Delaware Valley College. Game time will be announced on Thursday morning/early afternoon.
The Bulldogs controlled most of the play on Wednesday out-shooting King's, 20-9, for the game and holding a 6-3 advantage on corner kicks. Senior
Michelle Churchman made three saves in the win, two of which came in the first 10 minutes of the game when the Lady Monarchs seemed to threaten the most on the afternoon.
DeSales had its best scoring chance with about 15 minutes left in the first-half when senior
Emily DeOliveira sent in a corner kick that senior
Brady Walsh headed towards the goal but it was saved by the KC keeper. Walsh was right there for the rebound but that shot was miraculously also saved by the Lady Monarch keeper preserving the scoreless tie into the half.
In the 57
th minute DeOliveira again sent a corner kick feed into the box where an unmarked McPeak ran into the ball just inches from the goal line as the ball caromed off her body and into the net along with the keeper and a King's defender to give DSU a 1-0 lead and ultimately the win.
The shutout is the ninth of the season for Churchman and the Bulldog defense.
