DeSales Inducts Four New Members and a Team into Hall of Fame

Center Valley, PA (September 28, 2015) – The DeSales University athletic department would like to announce the induction of four new members, Brian Kuttler, '05, Jim Lawruk '02, Susan Roberts, Steve McKee '74, as well as recognition of the 1997-98 women's basketball team at its Athletics Hall of Fame ceremony held on Friday, September 25th.

Each inductee has made an everlasting impression on DeSales University athletics and will join the 49 current members and five other teams who were recognized in previous years.

Kuttler was a standout on the men's lacrosse team who continues to be the all-time leading scorer in DeSales history totaling 102 goals, which ranks fourth all-time, 86 assists, which ranks second all-time, for a program-best 188 career points. He also ranks seventh all-time with 238 ground balls and still holds the record for most assists in a game, along with Matt Brancaccio, tallying seven twice in his career.  Kuttler is still the only Bulldog to participate in the North/South Lacrosse All-Star game in 2005 and was named All-MAC Second-Team three times in his career.

Lawruk was a standout on the golf team from 1999-02 finishing among the top eight at the MAC Championships in three of his four years on the team. He earned All-MAC First-Team honors with a fifth place finish in 1999 and earned All-MAC Second-Team honors with an eight place finish in 2000 and a sixth place finish in 2001.  He still owns the second highest scoring average in team history at 82.5 strokes per round and had seven career rounds in the 70's including a career-low 76 as a senior in 2002 at Golden Oaks Golf Course.

McKee was a terrific player on the men's basketball team in the early '70's finishing his career with 621 points and 236 rebounds; leading the team in scoring as a senior.  He graduated in 1974 and went onto write three books including "The Call of the Game", "My Father's Heart", and "Coach".  He had established a "memory blog" called "Centaur Seasons" recounting the stories of the men's basketball team at then Allentown College from the first team in 1968-69 to his senior year in 1973-74.  McKee passed away in March, 2014.

Roberts served as the athletics department secretary for just shy of 24 years prior to her retirement in August, 2015. She received an appreciation award from the athletic department in the spring of 1997 and was honored as the DeSales University Employee of the Year in 2001.

The 1997-98 women's basketball team becomes the sixth team recognized by the University's Hall of Fame committee.  Current women's basketball head coach Fred Richter was the coach of the team in 1997-98 as the Bulldogs posted a 20-8 overall record, won the school's first-ever MAC Championship, and advanced into the NCAA Tournament.  Senior Kate Baxter led the team in scoring and rebounding and was named to the MAC All-Conference and ECAC South Region Second-Team that year.

Team members included: Kate Baxter, Janet Both, Kelly Cleighton, Kate Corcoran, Caryn Flory, Janelle Ganci, Kim Guman, Rachel Hartung, Jeanne Herbert, Maggie Karpovich, Heidi Kaucher, Clare Laracy, Collette Mancuso, Nicole McQuilken, and Cathy Samoylo.
