Baseball Falls to Misericordia, 8-4

West Lawn, PA (May 8, 2016) – Misericordia University scored three runs in the third and fourth innings and held off a late rally by the DeSales University baseball team forcing a winner take all MAC Freedom Championship game on Monday night at Owls Field on Sunday evening.
 
The winner take all title game will also be at Owls Field with first pitch set for 7:30 pm.  The winner of that game will earn the MAC Freedom's automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament.
 
MU (33-11) took a 3-0 lead in the third inning on a bases clearing double with two outs and added three more runs in the fourth on five singles to take a 6-0 lead.
 
DSU (27-14) got one run back in the sixth on a sacrifice fly from senior Jay Maletz and scored three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning on an RBI single from junior Tyler Sweeney and a two-RBI single from sophomore Conner Lafferty but left two runner stranded trailing 6-4 heading to the ninth inning.
 
A lead-off double followed by an RBI triple plated one more run for the Cougars and MU added a second run in the inning on a single up the middle, taking an 8-4 lead and DeSales was unable to mount a rally in the bottom half of the inning forcing the winner take all game on Monday.
 
Senior Steven Wallace took the loss allowing five hits and six runs, walking five in 3 1/3 innings.  Freshman Felix Martinez Jr. pitched great out of the bullpen allowing just two runs over 4 2/3 innings.  Junior Mike Kacergis had three hits, while junior Danny Licamara and Sweeney each had two hits as part of an 11-hit attack.
