Baseball Stays Alive with 8-4 Win over Manhattanville

West Lawn, PA (May 8, 2015) – Freshman Adam Donovan pitched six solid innings and junior Carlos Urena and sophomore Danny Licamara each had three hits leading the DeSales University baseball team past Manhattanville College, 8-4, on Friday afternoon in the Freedom Conference Baseball Tournament.

DSU (26-16) took an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning as freshman Conner Lafferty tripled home two runs.

Donovan was sharp early holding the Valiants (23-18) scoreless over the first five innings, pitching out of jams in fourth and fifth as the Bulldogs tacked on another run in the fourth on a double steal from Urena and Licamara.

The Bulldogs answered MVC's solo run in the top of the sixth with three runs in the bottom half of the frame on a two-RBI double from Licamara and a bases loaded hit by a pitch from freshman Hunter Hart.

MVille got one more run in the seventh but DSU again answered with two runs in the bottom half of the inning on back-to-back RBI doubles from Urena and Licamara.

Manhattanville added one run in both the eighth and ninth innings, leaving the tying run at the plate to end the game.

Urena finished 3-for-5 with three runs scored, Licamara had three hits and three RBIs, and Lafferty finished with two hits and two RBIs.  Sophomore Tyler Sweeney also had two hits in the win.

Donovan earned the win, his third of the year, lasting six innings allowing five hits and one run, striking out two.

The Bulldogs will now face the loser of the second game of the day Friday night with first pitch set to begin at 7:30 pm.
