Bulldogs Advance to MAC Freedom Title Game with 8-1 Win over Misericordia

West Lawn, PA (May 7, 2016) – Senior Chris Zampini pitched 6 1/3 strong innings and the DeSales University baseball team scored five early runs en route to an 8-1 win over Misericordia University to advance to the MAC Freedom championship game on Sunday afternoon.
 
The Bulldogs (27-13) will play the winner of the Misericordia/Manhattanville game earlier on Sunday beginning at 4:30 pm.  DSU will need to win just one more game to take home the MAC Freedom Championship.
 
DSU scored twice in the first inning as junior Tommy DePaul plated two runs with an RBI single.  The Bulldogs added three more in the second on an RBI single from freshman Tommy Epsaro, a sacrifice fly from sophomore Conner Lafferty, and another RBI single from DePaul to take a 5-0 lead.
 
The lead swelled to 6-0 in the fifth as junior Mike Kacergis had an RBI single and the two teams exchanged runs in the seventh.  Senior Alec Hardy had an RBI double in the seventh and Lafferty posted the final margin with his second sacrifice fly of the game.
 
Zampini was terrific stranding 10 runners over the first six innings including the bases loaded in the fourth inning.  Junior Tyler Cooperman pitched the final 2 2/3 innings allowing just three hits.  Zampini's lone run allowed was unearned as he struck out six and walked just one.
 
Sophomore Hunter Hart had three hits and scored twice, Lafferty tallied two runs and two RBIs, and DePaul had three hits and three RBIs.
