Rachel Turoscy

Rachel Turoscy returns to Center Valley, PA, for her sixth season as the head coach of the DeSales University softball team.

Turoscy has led DeSales to a 79-82 (.491) record in her first five seasons including a Freedom Conference playoff appearance in 2003 and 2004. In 2004 the Bulldogs were three outs away from eliminating King’s College from the Freedom Conference playoffs and advancing to the championship game before a Lady Monarch rally tied the game with King’s eventually winning 5-2 in eight innings.

The DSU head coaching position is the second at the college level for Turoscy after she served as the head coach at Cedar Crest College from 1997-2001. While at Cedar Crest, she was instrumental in building a softball program that began in 1997-98 with the hiring of Turoscy.

This past summer Turoscy accepted the summer head coaching position for the Topton VIPs, a Women’s ASA Major Fastpitch team based in Lyons, PA. The VIPs are one of the oldest existing women’s fastpitch teams in the nation formed in 1960. They have had many successes throughout their existence and this past summer saw much of the same under Turoscy’s guidance. The VIPs finished fifth at the Major Nationals tying their best ever finish. Because of their outstanding performances, four of the VIPs were named ASA All-Americans.

Prior to coaching the VIPs, Turoscy lead the Spirit, a Women’s ASA Class A fastpitch team for 10 years. She also saw great success with the Spirit finishing as the National Runners-up in 2003, while winning numerous state and tournament championships and producing several All-Americans.

Her coaching experience continues including stints with Raiders Softball of the ASA Affiliate Women’s Class A League from May 1987 to August of 1992, as well as being the assistant varsity coach for both Emmaus High School and Allentown Central Catholic High School in the mid-80’s.

Turoscy was also a standout player locally at Lehigh University where she was a four-year starter and team captain both her junior and senior season.

Turoscy, who resides in Hellertown, PA, graduated from Lehigh University in 1984 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry and later earned both a Master’s of Science Degree in Chemistry and her Ph.D in Physical Chemistry. She currently teaches introductory chemistry classes for the DeSales University ACCESS Program and traditional day programs.
