Center Valley, PA, (October 16, 2004) – The Wilkes University Colonels used a two-goal second-half to propel them past the DeSales University Bulldogs, 3-1, in women’s soccer Freedom Conference action on Saturday afternoon in Center Valley, PA.
Dana Lehman scored the eventual game-winner as she took a ball cleared by the Bulldogs defense and knocked into the left corner of the goalmouth, just past the diving DSU keeper at the 52:13 mark. The Colonels (9-5-1/2-2-1 Freedom) added an insurance goal at the 84:22 mark when Bethany Head scored her second goal of the game off an assist from Kristi Barsby.
Wilkes had taken a 1-0 lead in the first half when Head scored her first tally at the 27:32 mark on a deflection by the DSU defense that went right to her feet and she put the ball home. DSU (5-10-1/0-5 Freedom) tied the game at one just 12 minutes later as senior Meaghan Laurich (Warminster, PA/Archbishop Wood) scored off an assist from junior Rachel Emmons (Doylestown, PA/Central Bucks West).
Sophomore Kelly Hinkle (Quakertown, PA/Quakertown) made four saves in the loss as Wilkes out-shot DeSales, 15-10, in the game.
The Bulldogs return to action on Thursday, October 21
st as they host Widener University for a non-league game beginning at 3:00 pm.
