Center Valley, PA, (October 18, 2004) – The DeSales University field hockey team fell just short, losing 4-3 to local rival Moravian College on Monday afternoon at DeSales.

Two players recorded hat tricks including junior Gina Malatesta (Warminster, PA/St. Basil Academy) of DeSales and junior Stacee Cupples (Allentown, PA/Allentown Central Catholic) of Moravian, while senior Kelly Boone also added one goal as the difference in the Greyhounds win.

Malatesta started the scoring with an unassisted goal at the 18:40 mark, her tenth of the season, before Cupples answered with two tallies at the 22:08 mark and 28:04 mark of the first half.  Alyse Moyer and Jenna Abramson recorded assists on the first goal, which came off a penalty corner.  Malatesta scored her second just 3:14 before halftime to even the score at two entering the midway point.

In the second half, Boone scored first giving the Greyhounds a 3-2 edge and Cupples made it a two-goal game just 1:26 later.  Savannah Bayer had an assist on Boone’s goal at the 45:03 mark.  Malatesta wasted no time cutting the lead in half as she recorded her third tally just 59 seconds after Cupples third but that ended the scoring with Moravian clinging to the one-goal lead.

DeSales out-shot Moravian 14-12 and each goalie, senior Shavonne Hannahoe (Shoemakersville, PA/Hamburg Area) and Amanda Gaun recorded five saves in between the pipes.

DeSales returns to action on Wednesday as they host Albright College at 3:45 pm.
