Center Valley, PA, (October 20, 2004) – Freshman Ashley Sparango (Salfordville, PA/Souderton) scored the only goal of the game in the first overtime to lift the DeSales University field hockey team past Albright College, 1-0, on Wednesday afternoon.

Sparango took over the overtime period with her speed, firing six of the Bulldogs seven shots.  The game-winner came at the 80:42 mark as she received a pass, dodged the Lion goalkeeper and scored into the wide open cage.  She had narrowly missed a chance to win the game just five minutes into the overtime period as she drew a penalty stroke.  Her stroke went towards the far right corner but AC’s goalie made a diving save to extend the game.

Senior Shavonne Hannahoe (Shoemakersville, PA/Hamburg Area) made three saves in recording her second shutout of the season.  Albright’s keeper, Kristen Ianieri, was fantastic in goal as she made 15 saves to keep the Lions in the game.  DSU out-shot Albright, 26-11, in the contest.

DeSales returns to action on Saturday, October 23rd as they face Rosemont College in the final home game of the 2004 season.  Game time is set for 1:00 pm.
