Men’s Soccer Surrenders Late Lead, Falls at Muhlenberg, 4-3

 
Allentown, PA, (October 20, 2004) – The DeSales University men’s soccer team surrendered one-goal leads three times on Wednesday and fell to local rival Muhlenberg College, 4-3, in non-conference action.
 
        The loss marks the fourth time this season, DSU has surrendered a lead with less than 10 minutes left in the game.  DSU led 1-0, 2-1, and 3-2 before the Mules came back all three times and finished its comeback with two goals over a one minute and 43 second span to record the win.
 
        Senior John Rennie (Cape May Court House, NJ/Middle Township) and freshman Daniel Jones (Ronks, PA/Pequea Valley) were responsible for the Bulldogs first two goals as twice Jones sent centering passes into the box which Rennie received and scored.  The first came at the 20:44 mark and was the only tally of the first half as DSU led 1-0 at the break.
 
        The second came at the 49:26 mark, just 24 seconds after Muhlenberg had tied the game at one at 49:02.  The Mules again tied the score, this time at two at the 63:53 mark on a penalty kick goal from Adam Millberg.  There was no scoring again until the 80:51 mark when sophomores Randy Sturm (Cape May, NJ/Lower Cape May) and Phil Yetter (Saylorsburg, PA/Pleasant Valley) connected on a free kick to make it a 3-2 DeSales lead with under 10 minutes to play.
 
        Muhlenberg failed to quit however and tied the scored for the third time in the game on an unassisted goal by Christopher King at the 82:54 mark and James Henshaw scored the eventual game-winner just 1:43 later.  MC out-shot DSU, 21-16 as DSU falls to 9-6 overall and the Mules improve to 5-7-2 overall.

         DSU returns to action on Saturday as they travel to Delaware Valley College for an a Freedom Conference game beginning at 1:00 pm.
