Aggies Score Late Goal in Regulation to Force 2-2 Tie in Women’s Soccer

Doylestown, PA, (October 26, 2004) – The DeSales University women’s soccer team allowed the tying goal to score with just 19 ticks left on the clock in regulation and neither team could find the back of the net in either overtime as the Bulldogs and Delaware Valley College finished in a 2-2 tie in Freedom Conference action on Tuesday afternoon.

Junior Rachel Emmons (Doylestown, PA/Central Bucks West) and sophomore Rachel Roderer (Stewartsville, NJ/Timothy Christian) combined to each score one assist and one goal to lead the Bulldogs (7-10-2 overall/0-5-1 Freedom) attack.

The Aggies struck first as Janelle Smoyer scored just 6:44 into the game to give DVC a 1-0 lead which lasted through the first half.  Roderer scored off an Emmons assist at 52:09 of the second half to tie the game and Emmons made it 2-1 DSU off a Roderer assist just seven minutes later, but DVC refused to quit and knotted the scored at two with just 19 ticks left on Smoyer’s second marker of the game.

The Aggies had three shots in each of the overtime periods but were unable to find the net and the game ended tied at two.  Sophomore Kelly Hinkle (Quakertown, PA/Quakertown) made nine saves for DeSales as Delaware Valley out-shot the Bulldogs, 23-16, in the game.
