Doylestown, PA, (October 27, 2004) – The DeSales University men’s soccer team recorded its second straight shutout win by blanking Delaware Valley College, 4-0, in Freedom Conference action on Wednesday afternoon and clinched a home playoff game in the process.

The DSU (11-7/5-1 Freedom) win coupled with the King’s College loss to Wilkes University (1-0 in OT) on Wednesday means the Bulldogs can finish no worse than second in the Freedom Conference and will host at least one playoff game next week.  The last time DSU had a home playoff game was in 1988 when they hosted the ESAC Championship as well as an NAIA District 19 playoff game.

The Bulldogs need a win on Saturday vs. King’s and one more loss by Drew University to finish as the No. 1 seed.  If Drew wins its remaining two conference games, DeSales gets the No. 2 seed.  The top four teams earn post-season bids and the semifinal round games will be held on campus at the top two seed locations on Tuesday, November 2nd.  The Freedom Conference championship game will be played at the highest remaining seed on Saturday, November 6th.

DSU wasted no time in recording its win over the Aggies today as they scored all four of its goals in the first half.  Senior Kevin Moore (Hockessin, DE/Salesianum) recorded a hat trick in the win and scored the eventual game-winner off an assist from sophomore Randy Sturm (Cape May, NJ/Lower Cape May) 11:33 into the game.

Senior Joe Rinchiuso (Norwell, MA/Norwell) scored the second goal of the game 12 minutes after Moore's first tally on an assist by sophomore Phil Yetter (Saylorsburg, PA/Pleasant Valley).  Moore added his second of the game just 1:38 after Rinchiuso's off an assist from freshman Daniel Jones (Ronks, PA/Pequea Valley) and recorded the hat trick with 1:02 left in the first half on Sturm's second assist of the game.

Freshmen Tigh Savercool (Millerstown, PA/Greenwood) and Brad Ferguson (Galloway, NJ/St. Joseph) each made two saves in recording the Bulldogs' sixth shutout of the season as DeSales out-shot Delaware Valley 27-15 and held a 5-2 advantage on corner kicks.

The Bulldogs finish its regular season on Saturday as they host King’s College in a Freedom Conference game beginning at 2:00 pm.
