Bulldogs Erase Two Goal Deficit, Defeat King’s 3-2

 
Center Valley, PA, (October 30, 2004) – In a game played amidst puddles and a mud filled field the DeSales University men’s soccer team came out victorious by erasing a two-goal deficit to defeat King’s College, 3-2, in the final regular season and Freedom Conference game of the season.
 
        The win means the Bulldogs (12-7/6-1 Freedom) will be the #2 seed in the Freedom Conference playoffs and will host the #3 seed Lycoming College in the first round on Tuesday, November 2nd at 1:30 pm.  The #1 seed, Drew University, will host the #4 seed Wilkes University in the other semifinal on Tuesday.  The winners advance to the Freedom Conference Championship on Saturday, November 6th with the winner getting an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
 
        Senior Joe Rinchiuso (Norwell, MA/Norwell) ignited DSU’s comeback as he scored the first Bulldog goal at the 71:58 mark by knocking home senior Kevin Moore’s (Hockessin, DE/Salesianum) re-directed shot that was saved by the Monarch goalkeeper. 
 
        Rinchiuso struck again just 6:27 later tying the game by scoring on a loose ball in front of the Monarch net and sophomore Randy Sturm (Cape May, NJ/Lower Cape May) finished off the come from behind win at the 82:15 mark with a header off fellow sophomore Phil Yetter’s (Saylorsburg, PA/Pleasant Valley) free kick for his eighth goal of the season.
 
        King’s took a 1-0 lead just 9:38 into the game as Jordan Miller took a pass inside the box and fired it into the upper right corner of the net and Miller pushed the lead to 2-0 at the 66:34 mark with a header off a centering pass from Dan Gibbons.

        DeSales out-shot King’s 21-8 and held a 7-2 advantage on corner kicks.  Freshman Tigh Savercool (Millerstown, PA/Greenwood) made four saves for DeSales in between the pipes in the win.
