Scranton, PA, (October 5, 2004) – Junior Gina Malatesta (Warminster, PA/St. Basil Academy) and freshman Jen Pulcini (Easton, PA/Easton) each scored two goals in leading the DeSales University Field Hockey to its second straight win, 6-1, over Marywood University on Tuesday.
DSU has now scored 13 goals over its last two games and improves its season record to 5-4 overall. Malatesta started the scoring with her eighth goal of the season at the 11:09 mark of the first half off an assist from freshman Kaeleen Weiser (Philadelphia, PA/St. Basil Academy).
Freshman Ashley Sparango (Salfordville, PA/Souderton) scored the eventual game-winner just six minutes later off freshman Amy Zoltek’s (Harleysville, PA/Lansdale Catholic) first career assist and freshman Rachel Coleman (New Castle, DE/Padua Academy) scored her first career marker off sophomore Bethany Hepner’s (Coopersburg, PA/Southern Lehigh) just before the half to give DSU the 3-0 advantage.
Malatesta struck for her second goal just 2:10 into the second half and Pulcini added her two goals at the 40:08 mark and the 62:40 mark as Sparango assisted on Malatesta’s second and Pulcini’s first tally. Senior Shavonne Hannahoe (Shoemakersville, PA/Hamburg Area) made four saves to record her fifth win of the season as the Bulldogs out-shot the Pacers, 42-6 in the game.
DeSales returns to action on Saturday as they travel to Lebanon Valley College for a 1:00 game.
