Reading, PA, (October 9, 2004) – The DeSales University volleyball team traveled to Albright College on Saturday afternoon for a quad match with Gwynedd-Mercy College and William Paterson University that saw the Bulldogs lose all three of its matches.
DSU fell to Albright College, 3-1 (30-14, 25-30, 30-16, 30-27), in its first match, lost to Gwynedd-Mercy College, 3-0 (30-19, 30-21, 30-26), in its second match and dropped its third straight to William Paterson University, 3-0 (31-29, 30-25, 30-26).
Senior Michelle Piel (Pottsville, PA/Pottsville) led the attack in the first match with a team-high 17 kills and 14 digs and junior Colleen Arthur (Ridley Park, PA/Cardinal O’Hara) tallied 23 digs.
In the second match of the day Arthur had a team-high 21 digs and freshman Gia Zimmerman (Blandon, PA/Reading Central Catholic) added 21 assists and nine digs
Rounding out the day in the third match, Arthur topped off an excellent day by setting a school-record with an amazing 37 digs in the three-game match. The 37 digs not only break the record for digs in a three-game match but also broke the mark for a four and five-game match. Piel and Sheckler added 11 kills and freshman Allie Boyer (Douglassville, PA/Daniel Boone) totaled 10 kills and 11 digs in the loss.
DeSales returns to action on Tuesday, October 12th as they host King’s College in a Freedom Conference match beginning at 7:00 pm.
