Diplomats Upset DeSales in ECAC First Round, 2-1

Sophomore Randy Sturm scored his ninth goal of the season in the 2-1 double overtime loss on Wednesday.
 
Center Valley, PA, (November 10, 2004) – The #3 seed DeSales University men’s soccer was upset by the #6 seed Franklin & Marshall College, 2-1, in double overtime in the first round of the ECAC South Region Tournament on Wednesday afternoon.
 
        Freshman Brandon Corday scored the game-winner just 24 seconds into the second overtime as he got excellent position on a DSU defender, received a long pass down the middle from Jose Caballe and beat the DSU keeper for the game-winner.
 
        DSU had sent the game into overtime as sophomore Randy Sturm (Cape May, NJ/Lower Cape May) scored his ninth goal of the season off a free kick pass from fellow sophomore Phil Yetter (Saylorsburg, PA/Pleasant Valley) at the 80:22 mark of the second half.  The Diplomats led 1-0 on an unassisted goal from Dan Mills at the 57:40 mark.
 
        Freshman Dennis Kelly (York, PA/York Catholic) made six saves in between the pipes for DeSales each team took 20 shots in the game.  Edward Stelz made seven saves for F&M.

         The loss ends DeSales season with a 12-9 overall record.
