Women’s Hoops Loses at Johns Hopkins, 60-55

Baltimore, MD, (November 21, 2004) – The DeSales University women’s basketball team lost its first game of the season, 60-55, at Johns Hopkins University in the championship game of the Blue Jays Tip-Off Tournament on Sunday afternoon.
 
        The loss marks the first time Hopkins has defeated DeSales in four career games as JHU erased a 12-point first-half deficit and a nine point second half deficit to record the win.  JHU shot 43.3 percent from the field in the second half as the Bulldogs connected on just 33.3 percent of its attempts.
 
        After DSU took a 33-24 on two free throws by senior Holly Liebl (Kutztown, PA/Kutztown) at the 19:24 mark of the second half, Hopkins went on a 13-2 run over the next six minutes to take a 37-35 lead.  The game was back and forth the rest of the way with the two teams tied nine different times including 53-53 with 2:03 remaining when the Blue Jay’s Alissa Burkholder hit a three-pointer to put JHU up three and Ashanna Randall connected on the next possession to make it 58-53 and DSU could get no closer.
 
        Senior Jen Netwall (Allentown, PA/William Allen) scored a team-high 15 points on 6-of-14 shooting and Liebl added 14 points and nine rebounds as she was the lone Bulldog named to the All-Tournament team.  Senior Alyssa Antolick (Bethlehem, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) tallied nine points in the loss on Sunday.

        DeSales returns to action on Tuesday as they open its home schedule with a non-conference game against local rival Moravian College beginning at 7:00 pm.
