Center Valley, PA, (November 23, 2004) – The DeSales University women’s basketball team out-scored Moravian College 15-6 in overtime to pull out an 82-73 win in the non-conference local battle on Tuesday evening in Billera Hall.
The Greyhounds’ Jenny Hackleman sent the game into overtime as she threw in an amazing shot at the buzzer in regulation to tie it at 67. With DeSales leading 67-63 and on the foul line with one shot left the Bulldogs missed the freebie, MC’s Katie Rizman raced down court and converted a lay-up and was fouled with just one tick left. She intentionally missed the charity toss, it was tapped to Hackleman and she threw in a shot over her head at the buzzer to tie the game.
DeSales took a three-point lead immediately into overtime and continued to lead by three with 1:28 left before senior Holly Liebl (Kutztown, PA/Kutztown) hit a driving lay-up to make it 78-73 and Moravian missed a three-point attempt on the other end. The Bulldogs converted 4-of-4 foul shots down the stretch and escaped with the victory.
Neither team shot well in the game with DeSales converting 31.7 percent of its shots and Moravian shooting 34.2 percent. DSU shot 55 free throws and made 41 of them (74.5 percent), while the Greyhounds were sent to the line just 22 times, making 18.
Four players were in double digits for DeSales including freshman Jenn Osborne (Allentown, PA/Allentown Central Catholic) with a career-high 19 points on 6-of-11 shooting. Liebl and fellow senior Alyssa Antolick (Bethlehem, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) each scored 16 points and Liebl recorded her second double-double of the season with 13 rebounds. Senior Jen Netwall (Allentown, PA/William Allen) also reached double digits with 10.
Katie Rizman led the Hounds with 19 points and Hackleman and Sara Steinman added 14 points in the loss. Hackleman grabbed a game-high 14 rebounds before fouling out in the overtime period.
DeSales returns to action on Wednesday, December 1st as they host Drew University in the first Freedom Conference game of the season beginning at 6:00 pm.
