Center Valley, PA, (December 1, 2004) – The DeSales University men’s basketball team saw nine different players score in a 63-47 win over Drew University in Freedom Conference action on Wednesday evening in Billera Hall.
Trailing by two points, 16-14, at the 8:37 mark of the first half, DeSales (3-1, 1-0 Freedom) went on an 18-5 run to end the first half and take a 32-21 lead into the locker room. The run started with a steal and dunk by senior Kyle Koch (Lehighton, PA/Lehighton) and saw senior Michael Venafra (Belmont Hills, PA/Lower Merion) can two treys during the spurt.
In the second half, an 11-4 run out of the locker room pushed the lead up to 18 points, 43-25, and the Bulldogs never looked back. The lead grew to as many as 23 points before a 13-6 Drew (2-2, 0-1 Freedom) run to end the game provided the final 63-47 margin.
Junior Drew Christman (Whitehall, PA/Whitehall) led the scoring attack with 13 points and Venafra added 11 points. Senior Kevin Welsh (Havertown, PA/Haverford) and freshman Eddie Ohlson (Allentown, PA/Parkland) combining for 12 assists. Koch and fellow senior David Spadt (Emmaus, PA/Emmaus) each totaled eight points and Spadt grabbed eight rebounds.
The Rangers had one player reach double digits, Craig Clemente with 10 points. Leading scorer Bob Carella finished with seven points and a team-high seven rebounds.
DeSales returns to action on Saturday, December 4th as they travel to Wilkes University for a Freedom Conference beginning at 3:00 pm.
