Wilkes-Barre, PA, (December 4, 2003) – Sophomore Jenn Osborne (Allentown, PA/Allentown Central Catholic) scored a career-high 26 points and pulled down 12 rebounds to lead the DeSales University women’s basketball team past Wilkes University, 79-59, in Freedom Conference action on Saturday afternoon.
DSU (4-1, 2-0 Freedom) used a 28-11 run to end the first half after Wilkes (1-4, 0-2 Freedom) had trailed by just four points, 15-11, with 11:40 left to play to take a 43-22 lead into the locker rooms. Osborne scored 18 of her career-high 26 points in the first half as the Bulldogs forced 13 Lady Colonel turnovers and committed just two themselves.
In the second half, WU managed to cut the lead to 16 points, 58-42, with 9:12 remaining but the Bulldogs answered with a 10-3 run pushing the lead up to 23 points, 68-45 with 6:25 on the clock and never looked back. DSU forced 24 Lady Colonel turnovers in the game and out-rebounded Wilkes by nine, 54-45, in the win.
Osborne’s double-double was the first of the season and the second of her career-high and the 12 boards were also a career-high. Senior Jen Netwall (Allentown, PA/William Allen) added 12 points and a team-high five assists and freshman Krista Gerlach (Oak Ridge, NJ/West Milford Township) came off the bench to score eight points and grab seven rebounds. Senior Maria Viercinski (West Wyoming, PA/Bishop Hoban) grabbed a career-high nine rebounds.
The Lady Colonels had three players in double digits including Rena Bolin and Andrea Kacprowicz with 11 points and Lacey Andresen with 10 points.
DeSales returns to action on Tuesday as they return home to take on Muhlenberg College in a non-league game beginning at 7:00 pm.
