Chester, PA, (December 9, 2004) – Sophomore Jenn Osborne (Allentown, PA/Allentown Central Catholic) and senior Alyssa Antolick (Bethlehem, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) combined to score 49 points as the DeSales University women’s basketball team defeated Widener University, 74-55, in non-conference action on Thursday evening.
Antolick scored 15 of her 21 points in the second half and Osborne tallied 17 of her career-high 28 points in the second stanza as DSU extended a one-point halftime lead into a 19-point win by outscoring the Pioneers, 46-28. DSU shot a blistering 55.2 percent from the field in the second half and forced 27 Widener turnovers in the game.
With the score 41-40 in favor of Widener (4-3 overall), DeSales (6-1 overall) took control of the game going on a 25-7 run over the next 7:15 to take a commanding 65-48 lead. Antolick and Osborne combined for 19 of the 25 points during the spurt, while seniors Jen Netwall (Allentown, PA/William Allen) and Holly Liebl (Kutztown, PA/Kutztown) each added three points.
The first half was a back and forth affair with no team holding more than a five point lead. The Bulldogs used a 10-4 run over the last 6:11 to take the one-point lead, 28-27, into the locker rooms.
Osborne scored her career-high 28 tallies on 10-of-16 shooting and added six rebounds and four blocks. Antolick shot 6-of-11 from the field and filled the stat sheet once again with five rebounds, five assists and four steals. Liebl also reached double figures with 12 points on 5-of-6 shooting and Netwall added five assists and three steals. Sophomore Kirby Lutz (Easton, PA/Pen Argyl) added four points, nine rebounds and four steals off the bench.
Chelsea Luhta led the Pioneers with 21 points as the lone double figure scorer. Kelli Murphy added nine points off the bench.
DeSales returns to action on Saturday as they travel to Cabrini College for another non-conference game beginning at 4:00 pm.
