Center Valley, PA, (August 28, 2004) – The DeSales University women’s tennis team opened its 2004 season with an 8-1 win over visiting Eastern University in a non-league match on Saturday afternoon.

 

The Bulldogs swept all three doubles matches and five singles matches to record their first win of the season.  Junior Laura LeVan (Orefield, PA/Parkland) was among the double winners as she posted a 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 1 singles and teamed with freshman Liz Guidon (Northampton, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) for an 8-2 win at No. 1 doubles.  Guidon was also victorious at No. 2 singles, 6-2, 6-2.

 

Freshman Courtney McClurkin (Collegeville, PA/Spring-Ford) won at No. 3 singles, 6-3, 3-0 (Retired) and fellow freshman Mary Kate McElvaney (Philadelphia, PA/St. Hubert) won at No. 4 singles, 6-1, 6-2.  The two also teamed at No. 2 doubles to win, 8-1.

 

Rounding out the day’s winners was sophomore Colleen Solomon (Catasauqua, PA/Allentown Central Catholic) at No. 6 singles, 6-1, 6-1.  Solomon also teamed with junior Kate Ottinger (North Catasauqua, PA/Allentown Central Catholic) at No. 3 doubles to win, 8-5.
