Volleyball Splits Tri-Match with Cedar Crest and Elizabethtown

 
Center Valley, PA, (September 11, 2004) – The DeSales University volleyball team splits its home tri-match with visiting Cedar Crest College and Elizabethtown College on Saturday afternoon.
 
        The Bulldogs won their first match of the season defeating Cedar Crest College 3-1 (23-30, 30-21, 30-23, 30-23) in the first match of the day and losing to Elizabethtown College 3-0 (30-12, 30-13, 30-28) in the last match of the day.  The win over the Falcons gave Coach Helen Deegan her 100th win of her career as she now has a 100-116 overall record.
 
        Leading the attack in the victory over Cedar Crest was senior Michelle Piel (Pottsville, PA/Pottsville Area) and sophomore Janna Sheckler (Lehighton, PA/Lehighton) who each tallied a team-high 14 kills.  Piel also added 16 digs and Sheckler had four blocks.  Freshman Gia Zimmerman (Blandon, PA/Reading Central Catholic) added 47 assists and junior Colleen Arthur (Ridley Park, PA/Cardinal O’Hara) had a team-high 19 digs.  Sophomore Michelle Rehnert (Pottsville, PA/Nativity BVM) also had 15 digs in the win.
 
        In the second match against Elizabethtown, junior Kimberley Werner (Wescosville, PA/Emmaus) tallied a team-high eight kills to lead the attack.  Rehnert added a team-high 12 digs and Arthur also had double digits with 11 scoops.

       DeSales returns to action on Tuesday as they travel to Philadelphia Biblical University for a match at 7:00 pm.
