Pomona, NJ, (September 10, 2004) – The DeSales University men’s soccer team suffered its first loss of the 2004 season as they fell to the College of New Jersey, 2-1, in double overtime at the Richard Stockton Seashore Classic on Friday night.
Senior Kevin Moore (Hockessin, DE/Salesianum) scored the lone goal for DeSales and gave the Bulldogs a 1-0 lead with his fifth goal of the season off a feed from freshman Daniel Jones (Ronks, PA/Pequea Valley) at the 31:58 mark of the first half.
The tying goal came for the Lions came with just 5:28 left in regulation as Michael Ferber scored off an assist from Ryan McMann. After both teams were held scoreless in the first overtime, TCNJ struck at the 103:28 mark of the game when Kolja Mueller scored the game-winner off a pass from Jim Cooney.
TCNJ improves to 4-0 with the win, while the Bulldogs drop to 2-1 overall. The Lions out-shot the Bulldogs 23-17 and held a 7-4 advantage on corner kicks.
DeSales plays host Richard Stockton in the second game of the tournament on Saturday at 3:00 pm.
