Immaculata, PA, (September 13, 2004) – Junior Gina Malatesta (Warminster, PA/St. Basil Academy) scored two goals and sophomore Bethany Hepner (Coopersburg, PA/Southern Lehigh) added the game-winner as the DeSales University field hockey team recorded the program’s first-ever win, 3-0, over Immaculata University on Monday afternoon.
Hepner scored the game-winner just 1:58 into the second half as she took the feed from freshman Ashley Sparango (Salfordville, PA/Souderton) on a penalty corner and fired it into the cage for the game’s first goal.
Sparango recorded assists on all three goals in the win as she also set-up Malatesta for the second and third goal with centering passes that Malatesta one touched past the Mighty Macs goalie.
Senior Shavonne Hannahoe (Shoemakersville, PA/Hamburg Area) was again solid in goal as she made two saves to record the first-ever shutout in program history.
DeSales returns to action on Wednesday as they take to the road again at Haverford College beginning at 4:00 pm.
