Madison, NJ, (September 15, 2004) – The DeSales University women’s tennis team had its four-match winning streak to start the season snapped at four as the Bulldogs lost at Drew University, 5-1, in Freedom Conference action on Wednesday afternoon.
The match was not finished completely as three singles matches were all stopped due to rain. When the rain started falling, DeSales was leading in two of the matches and the third was tied entering the third set.
DSU’s lone point before the rain came at the #2 doubles position as freshmen Courtney McClurkin (Collegeville, PA/Spring-Ford) and Mary Kate McElvaney (Philadelphia, PA/St. Hubert) defeated the Drew tandem of Crystal Vo and Erin Jessen, 8-5.
McClurkin led, 6-2, 4-1 in the second before the rain at #3 singles, McElvaney was tied 6-2, 3-6 entering the third set at #4 singles and sophomore Colleen Solomon (Catasauqua, PA/Allentown Central Catholic) was winning at #6 singles, 6-4, 2-3 in the second set.
DeSales returns to action on Saturday as they host King’s College in an important Freedom Conference match beginning at 1:00 pm.
