Williamsport, PA, (September 19, 2004) – The DeSales University women’s soccer team lost its Freedom Conference season opener, 3-1, at Lycoming College on Sunday afternoon in Williamsport, PA.
The first three goals were all scored within 35 seconds of each other as the Warriors (4-1, 1-0 Freedom) scored first at the 31:09 mark when Beth Weixel took a pass from Kaitlyn Prairie and gave Lyco a 1-0 lead. DSU answered as freshman McKayla Crist (York, PA/Dover Area) scored her first career goal at the 31:34 mark off an assist from sophomore Rachel Roderer (Stewartsville, NJ/Timothy Christian).
The game-winner was than tallied just 10 seconds later by the Warriors as Laura Dillon scored off a pass from Danielle Curry, who added the insurance goal at the 48:44 mark of the second half. Lyco out-shot DSU, 31-16 in the game. Sophomore Kelly Hinkle (Quakertown, PA/Quakertown) made nine saves for DeSales.
DeSales returns to action on Wednesday, September 22nd as they host Lebanon Valley College in a non-conference game beginning at 4:00 pm.
