Bulldogs Lose Local Battle in Men’s Soccer 2-1 at Moravian

Bethlehem, PA, (September 21, 2004) – The DeSales University men’s soccer team lost to local rival Moravian College, 2-1, in non-conference action on Tuesday afternoon.

The Bulldogs wasted no time in taking a 1-0 lead as senior John Rennie (Cape May Court House, NJ/Middle Township) scored his fourth goal of the season, a head ball, off a header pass from sophomore Randy Sturm (Cape May, NJ/Lower Cape May) who took an throw-in from senior Joe Rinchiuso (Norwell, MA/Norwell) just 36 seconds into the game.

The game remained a one goal lead for the Bulldogs until the 74:57 mark when Nick Targuinio took a corner kick service from Josh Sheetz and headed it into the far corner of the net.  Ryan Fick than tallied the game-winner 10 minutes later off a pass from Tarquinio.

Moravian out-shot DeSales, 17-16, and held a 7-2 advantage on corner kicks.  Freshman Tigh Savercool (Millerstown, PA/Greenwood) made four saves for DeSales in between the pipes.

DeSales returns to action on Thursday, September 23rd as they travel to FDU-Florham for its first Freedom Conference game of the season at 4:00 pm.
