Bulldogs Win Fifth Match of Season, 6-3 over FDU-Florham

Freshman Mary Kate McElvaney improved to 5-0 with a win at No. 4 singles on Thursday.
 
Center Valley, PA, (September 23, 2004) – The DeSales University women’s tennis team improved to 5-0 at home this season as they defeated FDU-Florham, 6-3, in Freedom Conference action on Thursday afternoon.
 
        DSU (5-1 overall, 2-1 Freedom) won two doubles matches and four singles matches to record the conference win.  Dual winners included freshman Courtney McClurkin (Collegeville, PA/Spring-Ford), freshman Mary Kate McElvaney (Philadelphia, PA/St. Hubert) and sophomore Colleen Solomon (Catasauqua, PA/Allentown Central Catholic).
 
        McClurkin and McElvaney combined to win 8-2 at No. 2 doubles, while McClurkin won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3 singles and McElvaney won 6-1, 6-2 at No. 4 singles.  Solomon teamed with junior Kate Ottinger (North Catasauqua, PA/Allentown Central Catholic) to win 8-3 at No. 3 doubles and Solomon also won 6-2, 6-1 at No. 6 singles.
 
        Other winners included junior Laura LeVan (Orefield, PA/Parkland) who won 7-6 (7-4), 6-0 at No. 1 singles.
 
        DeSales returns to action tomorrow as they travel to Wilkes University for another Freedom Conference match beginning at 4:00 pm.
