Center Valley, PA, (September 27, 2004) – The DeSales University men’s soccer team defeated Lycoming College, 3-0, in an important Freedom Conference game on Monday afternoon to run its win streak to three straight.
The win is the 54
th in the 5+ year career of head coach
George Crampton as he moves into a tie for first place on the all-time wins list in men’s soccer history at DeSales. Ron Quinn (1986-90) also has 54 wins in his five-year coaching career.
The Bulldogs record their second straight shutout win as freshman Brad Ferguson (Galloway, NJ/St. Joseph) made six saves to record his second straight personal shutout as well. DSU out-shot Lycoming, 18-11, and held an 11-4 advantage on corner kicks.
Senior Joe Rinchiuso (Norwell, MA/Norwell), who earlier today was named the Freedom Conference Defensive Player of the Week, scored the game-winning goal at the 27:56 mark of the first half as he took a long pass from sophomore Phil Yetter (Saylorsburg, PA/Pleasant Valley) and shot towards the net where a Warrior defender was unable to clear it past the goalmouth and the ball went into the net.
DSU added the insurance goal at the 63:55 mark of the second half as freshman Kyle Moore (Hockessin, DE/Salesianum) took advantage of a LC turnover and scored just inside the far post.
The Bulldogs will try to make it four straight on Wednesday when they travel to Gwynedd-Mercy College for a non-conference game beginning at 4:00 pm.
