Center Valley, PA, (September 29, 2004) – Junior Gina Malatesta (Warminster, PA/St. Basil Academy) scored three goals and added one assist to lead the DeSales University field hockey team to a 7-1 win over Stevens Institute of Technology on Wednesday afternoon.
The Bulldogs exploded for seven goals led by Malatesta who scored once in the first half and twice in the second. She also assisted on freshman Ashley Sparango’s (Salfordville, PA/Souderton) game-winner at the 11:24 mark of the first half. Sparango added an assist on Malatesta’s second goal.
Freshman Kaeleen Weiser (Philadelphia, PA/St. Basil Academy) scored twice, her first tallies of her career, freshman Jen Pulcini (Easton, PA/Easton) added one goal and one assist and sophomore Bethany Hepner (Coopersburg, PA/Southern Lehigh) dished out one assist to round out the scoring for the Bulldogs.
Senior goalkeeper Shavonne Hannahoe (Shoemakersville, PA/Hamburg Area) made two saves and was just 21 seconds away from her second career shutout before the Ducks knocked home their only goal of the game by Cynthia Szewczyk. DeSales out-shot Stevens, 24-4, and held a 15-4 advantage on penalty corners.
The Bulldogs return to action on Tuesday as they travel to Marywood University for a game beginning at 4:00 pm.
